BLACKbox Storage

Is file processing done on the BLACKbox storage device itself?

No. File processing is done on the user’s local system for best performance.

How can the storage capacity of BLACKbox be increased?

The storage capacity of BLACKbox is fixed depending upon the number of users it is bought for. But, it can be increased in two ways:

  1. Buying a new data dump device where the data from the hidden chamber will be shifted, thus doubling the capacity of the BLACKbox device in use.
  2. Upgrading to a new BLACKbox device through the buyback policy.
Can all data residing on BLACKbox be kept offline as well?

This can be done. However, it is not advisable since the size of BLACKbox storage might be different from individual desktop storage. Hence, it would not be possible to keep all the data offline. But BLACKbox provides an option to copy selected data from BLACKbox for offline use.

Does BLACKbox store data in encrypted form?

No. Data stored in BLACKbox is not in encrypted form. But, if an add-on subscription of DCDR cloud backup is subscribed to, BLACKbox encrypts and compresses data before sending it to the Data Center for off-premise backup.

Can we use all the storage on BLACKbox for live data and take a backup on a third-party NAS?

Yes, we can allocate all storage for the live data. However, to take the backup on a third-party NAS, it is necessary to provide NAS in the same LAN with a minimum of 1 GBPS connectivity. In this case, primary and hidden chamber features shall not be available.

Suppose multiple users are working on a shared file stored in BLACKbox, and one of the users modifies the file. Can a user download an older file version from the live data (not backup)?

No. The user can only download the modified version of the shared file.

How can the user's storage utilization be calculated?

Inside BLACKbox, storage utilization will be based on the access of sharing and personal folders given to users. Storage utilization can be checked from the deduplication report.
